Nerdland Festival 2025

With the BIOMED research group at KU Leuven, we participated for the first time in the Nerdland Festival, the largest science festival of the Benelux, by organizing an EOG-experience.

I coordinated a team of seven wonderful researchers to develop a novel science communication experience for this festival. Over the course of three days, thousands of children and adults visited our stand to explore the power of eye movements and neural decoding.

Participants played an interactive game in which they had to dodge bananas in the jungle using only their eyes, guided by electrooculography (EOG) signals. We also demonstrated how toy race cars can be controlled on a race circuit only using eye movements.

My research interests include signal processing algorithm design for multi-channel biomedical sensor arrays (e.g., electroencephalography) with applications in attention decoding for brain-computer interfaces.
